Ryedale School are the new Scarborough & District Year 8 netball champions – and provided another semi-finalist team too.

Ryedale entered two sides in the event at Eskdale School. The ‘B’ team, led tremendously by Eliza Powell, won their three group games and progressed through to the last four as group winners, only to lose 4-2 to Malton School.

The ‘A’ team also won all of their group games and beat Eskdale 8-2 in the semi-final before seeing off Malton 14-2 in the final. Holly Collier led the team to victory, with Ellie Crowther and Ruth Aber shooting particularly well. The team followed this triumph with a strong performance against Terrington Hall, Harriett Eve outstanding at centre in a 23-19 win.

Malton School gained revenge over Ryedale in the Year 11 district tournament at Graham School in Scarborough.

Ryedale won three and drew one of their four group games before beating Whitby College in the semi-finals.

The final had to be postponed to a later date, with Malton producing a strong all-round performance to triumph 7-3. Rosie Collier was outstanding for Ryedale.

In Year 9, Ryedale reached the semi-final, where they lost 7-2 to Scarborough College, despite Faye Thornton’s excellent display. Ryedale’s Year 9s and 11s also played Lady Lumley’s School, Pickering, in friendlies, winning 22-16 and 18-12 respectively.

Ryedale School also won at Year 7, 8 and 9 level in the first round of the Scarborough & District Cup competition, all away at Eskdale School. Nell Thackeray led the Year 7s to an 8-0 win, the Year 8s triumphed 14-0 and the Year 9s won 31-21, with Faye Thornton excelling at goal attack.

Ryedale School have also had a successful week in football, beating St Augustine’s School in the Scarborough & District Cup quarter-finals in both Year 10 and 11.

The Year 10s won 4-0 with goals from Jack Simpson, Keaton Watson and Keelan Simpson (2), while the Year 11s were outstanding in driving rain – goals from Matt Butler (2), Jordan Thackeray (2), Morgan Fraser (2), Jordan Horsfall (2) and David Daniels bringing a 9-0 victory. The Year 9 and 7 teams also beat Norton College.

Harvey D’Alquen (2), Callum Harrison and Lucas Davison netted in a 4-3 Year 9 victory, while Jake Edwards (4), Jacob Barbour (2), Elijah Hamilton, Oliver Kelsey, Toby Teasdale and two own goals contributed to an 11-1 Year 7 rout.

Ryedale School’s Year 11 hockey team’s debut in the county finals ended at the group stage.

After a fantastic victory over Ampleforth College in the Scarborough & District final, they travelled to Ashville College for the North Yorkshire finals but were drawn in a tough group and lost 1-0 to Queen Margaret’s School, drew 1-1 with Queen Mary’s, and lost 1-0 in the final few seconds to Giggleswick.
