CHAMPIONS Malton Cons ‘C’ went top of the Malton, Norton & District League after a 3-3 draw with their ‘B’ team.

Bright Steels went second following a 4-2 victory at Malton Cons ‘A’, a match which had four black-ball games. Pickering ‘A’, Pickering ‘C’ and Malton ‘A’ are also tied on 12 points with Pickering ‘D’ and Malton ‘B’ on eight.

There have been 16 black-ball frames so far this seaon. The most recent featured a re-spotted black in the derby at Pickering, with Alan Rudgard doubling it into the middle bag to give the ‘C’ team the win.

Lee Taylor won his frame in only four visits to the table with breaks of 24, 17, 44 and a 37 clearance – only to learn two days later the result does not count. Details on this are to be confirmed.

PERSONAL bests were recorded as 20 Pickering Running Club members took on the Pickering and Moors 10k.

Kim England underlined her growing reputation by winning the ladies’ race in 44 minutes 52 seconds.

Lynn Humpleby (50-09), Sue Slack (54-02) and new member Kate Youngs (58-59) broke pbs, while Cath Watson and Nicola Wise were within a minute of theirs. Hannah Bosomworth put in another brave performance, fighting an ankle problem.

Steve Watson led the men home in 40-20 to achieve an excellent 14th place overall. Graham Harrison showed a return to form with 42-57.

There was a tussle between Sam Holtby and Nick Cousins from seven kilometres onwards. Cousins closed steadily over the final stages but the young Holtby had the sprint finish.

Luke Richardson prefers longer than 10k but coped well to clock 45-25, followed by new member Bob Horsman, who set a pb with 45-55.

Terry Greene has completed another two marathons. He clocked four hours 32 minutes in the Loch Ness Marathon and 4:23 in his debut in the relatively new Chester Marathon.

There were good displays from Pickering athletes at the Bridlington Half Marathon. Steve Watson broke 90 minutes for the first time with 1:29-21, while Cath Watson clocked 1:52-53, Bosomworth 1:54-25 and Humple-by 1:54-11, a third pb in six weeks.
