A LATE penalty by man-of-the-match Steve Dorey saw West Pier progress to the quarter-finals of the Scarborough & District FA Cup at the expense of Sinnington.

Dorey got the only goal of the game with two minutes of extra time left against an unfortunate Sinners side, for whom Wayne Moon shone.

Man-of-the-match Phil Dickens fired in four goals as Filey Town finished 5-3 winners at Ryedale Sports Club.

Dan Baldry also netted for Filey, with Adam Hornby, Heath Brown and Chris Rhodes on target for Ryedale.

Ayton overcame Scalby 1-0 thanks to Chris McNeil’s goal while Simon Rigg put in a man-of-the-match performance at left-back.

It took extra time for Newlands Park pair Eric Hall and Paddy Mancrief to claim the first goals in their home tie against Hunmanby United, who replied through star man Joss Crawford, scoring as an outfield player after spending the first 90 minutes between the sticks.

Quarter-final draw: Eastfield St James v Whitby Fishermen, Ayton v Fishburn Park reserves, Newlands Park v Filey Town, Cayton Corinthians v West Pier.

Alex McGovern got the only goal of the game as Fishburn Park reserves knocked Rillington Athletic out of the Scarborough & District League Cup. Midfielder Dave Thompson impressed the most for Rillington.

Jamie Whitelaw (2), Paul Amoah, Danny Birley and Harry Holden were the marksmen as Cayton Corinthians won 5-2 against Snainton, who replied through Liam Cummings and Lee Drydale.

Former Pickering Town player Ricky Greening grabbed four goals in Edgehill’s 7-0 victory over FC Soba, being joined on the scoresheet by Paul Allick (2) and Lalan Flynn.
