Malton & Norton RUFC Under-17s came back from behind to comfortably win 29-12 at Selby in their opening league match of the season.

An early converted Selby try was soon matched by a short-range try from prop Charlie Read, converted by Ali Heard.

A long period of Malton pressure followed with the front row of Read, George Smith and Chris Dunn dominant in the set-pieces.

Full-back Sam Myers and winger Joe Payne went close but Malton did not convert pressure into points until centre Heard forced his way over.

The Selby eight, showing fire and fierce counter-rucking, forced Malt onto the defensive in the second half until a breakaway saw impressive newcomer Martyn Allen show his paces and step inside his opposing winger to score.

Malton were then gifted a score when a Selby mix-up saw fly-half David Bellwood kick the ball ahead and another mix-up allowed him to touch down.

Selby came back strongly with a fine try and continued to press but, after a fine relieving kick from excellent scrum-half Jack Wilson, centre Joe Godliman forced his way over, Heard converting.

Malton & Norton U16s outgunned Scarborough 53-7.

The visitors were much the better and opened the scoring with a long range Dan Boddy try and Adam Durrant’s impressive touchline conversion.

Tries followed regularly through Neil Adams (2), Rob Dempsey, Rob Roger, Brennon Kay and Tom Lowry, while Boddy completed his hat-trick. James Bulmer added three conversions, while Scarborough got a consolation score late in the game.
