KIEREN FALLON pocketed both of the big races on Music Showcase Saturday at York Racecourse.

The former champion jockey produced a superbly timed run on Summit Surge to win the £100,000 Sky Bet York Stakes and repeated the trick half an hour later when crashing through late on Hawkeyethenoo to capture the £50,000 Sky Bet Dash.

Trained by Luca Cumani, Fallon waited patiently on Summit Surge (8-1) before reeling in Bushman to win by a length-and-a-quarter.

Monitor Closely, who had won the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York last August, and Debussy made the early running. Bushman tracked the pair and went for glory at about the three furlong marker.

As they approached the last 100 yards, he appeared to have done enough – but no one had accounted for Summit Surge blasting down the Knavesmire straight.

Cumani said: “It probably wasn’t the strongest Group 2 but there is no denying how well he did it. I have been dying to put him over a mile-and-a-quarter ever since I have had him and this was the right opportunity. Fast ground is what he needs and he has a real turn of foot. He is a real sweet horse.”

Fallon then doubled up in the Dash on Hawkeyethenoo (7-1).

Malton rider Lee Topliss did his level best to deny him when getting Kaldoun Kingdom (16-1) to the head of affairs in the final furlong, but Fallon used all his experience to get up by a head.

Fallon said: “He’s tough and genuine, and we got the result we wanted. York has been a very lucky track for me over the years.”

York Racecourse chairman Nicholas Wrigley watched his debut runner on Knavesmire take the skyvegas.com Median Auction Maiden Stakes.

Common Touch (15-8 fav) stumbled after exiting the stalls and defied a stern challenge from Squires Gate to clinch victory by half-a-length – providing yet another York winner for Malton trainer Richard Fahey and stable jockey Paul Hanagan.

Robin O’Ryan, Fahey’s assistant trainer, said: “He just stumbled coming out of the stalls and that got him a little bit unbalanced.

“He was also a little bit green but he did it well. He’s a nice horse.”

Hanagan added: “He will come on a ton for that. I really like him and I like his temperament.”

Meanwhile, Nawton saddler David O’Meara’s brilliant start as a trainer continued when Smarty Socks (4-1 jt-fav) won the skybingo.com Stakes.

Frankie Dettori profited from rival Michael Hills’ traffic misfortune in the opening skypoker.com Stakes.

Hills was stuck on the A64 and could not get to the racecourse in time to ride Face The Problem.

Dettori stepped in to drive the 7-4 favourite to a straight-forward length-and-a-quarter victory over the Kevin Ryan-trained Brave Dream (25-1).

Elsewhere, Destinys Dream (8-1) came with a late run to take the skybet.com EBF Fillies’ Stakes for Spennymoor trainer Tracy Waggott and jockey Andrew Mullen, while Wicked Daze (12-1) won the Sky Bet Supporting The Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival Stakes.
