Richard Fahey, whose three winners on Saturday included his 100th of the season, puts Mayson to the test tomorrow on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood.

The two-year-old finished a close second on his debut at York last month before going on to win impressively at long odds-on from inferior rivals at Hamilton.

Mayson now takes on 11 talented rivals, including triple winner Zebedee, in the £60,000 Betfair Molecomb Stakes.

Paul Hanagan has the mount on the colt, who is owned and bred by David Armstrong. This promises to be a stiff challenge, but Mayson ranks highly in Fahey’s bumper crop of juveniles this season and is napped to come out on top.

Fahey notched his century on Saturday with Chiswick Bey at Newcastle, followed up at Ascot with Castles In The Air in a £75,000 handicap, and completed his treble on Knavesmire with newcomer Common Touch.

The Betfair Cup, a Group 2 race over seven furlongs, takes pride of place on the first of five consecutive days of racing at Goodwood.

Preference is for Red Jazz, beaten a head by Rainfall in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot before occupying the same position behind Premio Loco at Newmarket last time out.

Dandino has been a revelation this season for trainer James Given and jockey Paul Mulrennan, winning all his four races, a sequence which started off in a modest handicap at Redcar and has included notable wins at Epsom’s Derby meeting and at Royal Ascot.

Dandino now steps up to Group 3 company in the Betfair Gordon Stakes and while he can be expected to acquit himself well, he may not be quite good enough to beat a horse like Arctic Cosmos, who is rated 13lb his superior, and who chased home Monterosso in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

Kieren Fallon, at his brilliant best aboard two winners at York on Saturday, can open his Goodwood scoresheet with the progressive Start Right in the Tatler Summer Season Handicap.

Emerging Artist, trained by Mark Johnston and a good winner at Newbury 11 days ago, should go well for Frankie Dettori in the ROA Summer Handicap.

At Beverley, quantity outweighs quality with a bumper eight-race card, highlighted by the £8,000 Wilford Watts Memorial Handicap, which looks a good opportunity for Shadowtime.

Shadowtime has gained all his three wins at Beverley, where he recently finished a one-length second to Carlitos Spirit. He should go well on his favourite course.

Wadnaan looks the one to be on in the Journal Ladies Day Handicap. A lightly-raced three-year-old from the Mark Johnston stable, he was denied at Hamilton last time by the potentially smart Ashbrittle. He can go one better on his handicap debut.

The promising Adlington (2.00), who finished third on his debut at Haydock, and Kyzer Chief (4.50), who was narrowly beaten at Doncaster on his latest start, are two others to note.
