PICKERING Cricket Club kept up the pressure on Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League division one leaders Hull Zingari with a comfortable win over Hornsea.

Hornsea, for whom Paul Johnson notched a healthy 77, put a challenging total of 221 against the wily bowling of Dave Greenlay (5 for 41) and Mark Shepherd (3 for 60).

But the target proved of little test to the home batsmen.

Colin Frank led from the front with a superb undefeated 109, supported by the two bowlers who had done so much to strangle Hornsea, Shepherd hitting 43 and Greenlay 28. Pickering totalled 222 for the loss of just three men leaving them comfortable seven-wicket victors to remain on the coat-tails of the leaders.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge had to settle for a draw at Heworth, whose Jack Leaning made 67 to anchor a 236-7 total.

Bridge openers Paul Oldfield (54) and Jack Hugill (65) got the home reply on course but spinner Tom Forsdyke (5-62) curbed the advance.

Teenager Jordan Grose showed his batting capabilities by making 35 but with the Bridge had to make do with a draw at 214-8.

Stillington are still looking for their first division three success of the campaign after going down by five wickets at neighbouring Sheriff Hutton.

There were solid contributions from Barry Milburn (28), Karl Simpson (34) and Phil Moss (41), but Nick Schofield’s 5-11 proved telling affair as Stillington perished for 160. Sheriff’s Tom Harrison made 32 as five wickets fell with Adrian Leckonby claiming 3-58 but then Joel Wilford took control with an unbeaten 86 for a five-wicket win.

At Bolton Percy, Scarborough were dismissed for 189 in the 43rd over, their total boosted by a late unbeaten 576 from skipper Will Gibson. Percy’s bowling honours went to Tom Atkinson (3-34), Ali Rigby (3-47) and Peter Houseman (3-33).

Houseman followed with 50 and Matt Westwood made 29. But the star of the show was Jamie Rigby whose undefeated 80 had Bolton racing to a five-wicket win in just 36.1 overs.

Sessay took advantage of Bubwith, who had six players attending the Glastonbury music festival.

After a promising start Bubwith were undone by Craig Easton (5-30) and Karl Carver (3-14).

Sessay’s reply was largely untroubled, the only blip being the dismissal of Bruce Jackson for 34. Carver to join forces with Darren Atkinson to add 32 not out to his all-round show as Sessay triumphed by nine wickets., Pickering gained a superb eight-wicket win at Dringhouses whose 164-9 proved inadequate. The visitors’ batting aces in the division 4B success were Eddie Cass with 61 and Shaun Smith who made 46.

Malton & Old Malton toppled hosts Thirsk by five wickets. Simon Cass led the way with the ball taking a creditable 5-25 in 11 overs, while Lester Parkin’s 42 was the top score in Malton’s successful reply.

The bottom two sides in division 5A were in opposition when Hovingham journeyed to Cawood and the visitors prevailed.

Hovingham only made 106, Jake Fox the principal run-maker with 27, but Cawood were shot out for 44 as James Skelton (3-12) and Geoff Pears (3-2) took control.
