Chris and Lisa Adams took part in the Marathon du Medoc, based at the stunning Chateau du Medoc.

Now in its 40th year, this event celebrates the region’s extensive vineyards by offering wine along the route, and Chris and Lisa certainly entered into the spirit!

Running over 26 miles in 35C heat, while drinking wine and dressed as a Care Bear, is a tough challenge and takes a special type of endurance.

Chris and Lisa crossed the finish line together in 7 hours 9 minutes.

Taking on a very different type of challenge, Bridget Houlston competed in a quirky but seriously demanding triathlon set in the Lake District, called The ROC England.

It starts with a 1.5k swim in Windermere followed by a 29-mile cycle ride to the end of the Langdale Valley, an 11-mile run/crawl up and down the beast that is Scafell Pike, a 28-mile bike ride back to Newby Bridge and a 1k glory run to the finish.

Displaying extraordinary fitness and endurance, an emotional Bridget crossed the finish line in 8 hours 13 minutes, winning her the prize for 1st F40.

Tholthorpe 10k, a small village event which is growing in popularity, also took place last weekend.

The undulating route takes runners through quiet countryside.

Simon Jones was 1st back for PRC in a speedy 39 minutes 49 seconds, which placed him 23rd overall out of 304, and 3rd M50.

Richard Robinson was not far behind, clocking 41:29.

Then came John-Henry Cheetham in 45:06.

Paul Robinson’s time of 48:14 placed him 3rd M70.

Serena Partridge crossed the finish line in 53:59.

This weekend also saw the running of Flamingo Land 10k.

Suzy Hodgson earned the 2nd F50 place with her time of 51 minutes 48 seconds, and Lydia Adrian crossed the finish in 58:18.

Runners are then able to take a more leisurely walk through the park to see the animals they could only glimpse during the race.
