Not so many years ago in the Feversham Cricket League, what was considered to be the prestigious end-of-season Top Four Play-offs were eagerly anticipated.

Sadly, interest in this season's competition appears to be waning.

Other considerations now hold sway — for example, family pressure, football taking priority over cricket, other matches to fit in, lack of ground availability, indifference.

One cannot help but wonder if this could possibly lead to a proposal to either modify or abandon it altogether at the league's AGM.

If the latter, clubs should seriously consider the consequences.

Would the Supplementary Cup be the next to be jettisoned, followed by the end of the fifty-four-year-old Countess of Feversham Cup?

All this may seem a little far-fetched, but the fact remains that if implemented, it would spell the end of the historic league.

Meanwhile, after a frustrating week of postponements, it is to be hoped there will be enough players for the semi-finals, Glaisdale v Gillamoor and High Farndale v Lockton, to take place this Friday, 14th August.
