RYEDALE Sports Club croquet players have now claimed wins over two York teams after beating Eboracum 7-5 in the Yorkshire League.

Before last week's loss at a strong Sheffield, Ryedale had beaten Jorvik - and they got back on track at Thornton Road on Sunday.

Dodging the forecast heavy rain, only a small afternoon shower hit the fixture.

Ryedale took the first two morning games but Eboracum squared the match by the lunchtime break.

Mick Carter started the afternoon with a brilliant 14-4 demolition of the Eboracum number one.

The rest of the games illustrated Ryedale’s strength lower down the order.

Most pleasing was the debut performance of Alan Dyson in his first Yorkshire League match. Dyson, who started playing just over 12 months ago, shared a point in the doubles and then won both his singles in the afternoon.

Vic Worrall also shared a doubles point with Mick Carter and then won both his singles. The last was very close, with Worrall coming from behind to take the match 13-12.

Ryedale's next match is at home to Beverley on August 22.

The club welcomes all to their club sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
