YORK heavyweight Mitchell Barton kicked off his professional career with a dominant win.
Barton, who is trained and managed by York boxing legend Henry Wharton, sealed a points victory over Matt Gordon at Westminster's Church House, winning all of the scheduled four rounds to earn a 40-36 decision.
The fight was Barton's first in the paid ranks following a successful spell in the amateurs where he competed for Scotland at a number of major tournaments before making the move to York to train with Wharton at his Acomb gym.
“I’m feeling ecstatic, I’m over the moon and absolutely buzzing," Barton told iFL TV.
“It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it, it was unbelievable.
"Thanks to Frank Warren and Queensbury Promotions for putting me on such a brilliant show.
"I couldn’t have asked for a better debut really."
