STEVE WATSON expressed his delight for Jake Cassidy as the striker grabbed his first York City goal in the 3-0 win at Blyth Spartans.
Cassidy headed home York's third following strikes from Michael Woods and Harry Bunn to seal City's biggest win since September last year.
Having not scored since signing for the club in the summer from Stevenage, the manager was pleased that the target man could get off the mark.
“If you’re striker isn’t scoring it gets mentioned," said Watson. "I know the work rate that Jake puts in and out of the box, working both channels and running relentlessly.
"But, strikers need goals and I just had a word with him before the game, about sometime’s a strikers’ role being as simple as getting under control of the game, getting it wide and then getting into the scoring zone.
“I told him that it’s as simple as that sometimes. If you get yourself in front of the middle of the goal, in the six-yard box, you’ll get goals.
“That’s where get his goal and where Jack Redshaw found himself to head it back for Harry Bunn. That’s pleasing because it’s something we’ve been working on."
York's game against Chester on Saturday will be their second in the space of four days as the busy festive period begins.
Watson added: “We’ve got a short turnaround for a very tough game against Chester. I went to watch them (in a 3-0 win over Alfreton) and they’re a very tough side, they’re very energetic and they’ve got a lot of quality. But that’s where we find ourselves at the minute and we’ve got to take that on the chin."
