STEVE WATSON admits that he is a “little bit concerned” about the growing number of injuries to his York City squad.

York were already without Michael Duckworth and Matty Brown coming into last weekend’s Vanarama National League North game against Brackley Town after the defenders limped off with hamstring problems in last week’s FA Cup tie at Chorley.

Compounding that further, midfielder Akil Wright pulled up with a hamstring complaint on Friday and, to make matters worse, Josh King, who replaced Brown in central defence, came off injured in the first-half against Brackley.

The aforementioned four players all join Jack Redshaw on the treatment table, with the ex-Salford City and FC Halifax Town striker still yet to make his Minstermen debut following his summer move due to a hip flexor injury.

Manager Watson said: “We’ve not really been able to put a settled side together because of our horrendous injuries.

“We lost Akil and very nearly Scott Barrow yesterday and obviously we lost King in the first-half. You’re looking at half-a-dozen injuries to key players, so it’s difficult to put a settled side out and maybe that’s one of the reasons why we did look a little bit open at times.

“We are a little bit concerned. They are fatigue injuries and sometimes when you’re a full-time club and you have them in every single day and you’re playing Saturdays and Tuesdays, the lads probably need to be a little bit more honest with us about how they feel.

“That’s something that we need to have a look at. With Josh’s, it wasn’t a muscle injury. We’re missing five players who would probably start. We’ve not played Jack Redshaw yet who was possibly going to be one of the biggest goal threats in the team.

“I’m not absolutely delighted with how the league (season) has started. We’ve not lost a game in the league yet and we can only get better.”
