THE National League is in talks with the Government to secure a "critical financial support package" to ensure clubs' sustainable operation over the 2020/21 season.
A meeting of the league's board of directors was held today with the start date of the three tiers of competition still uncertain.
Following this week's Government announcement that fans' returns to live matches will be delayed beyond early October, it has been reported that four-fifths of the National League North do not support starting the season without fans.
York City are among those who do support the restart next month, as originally planned.
A statement on the National League website reads: "In recognition of the financial uncertainty facing its member clubs, the National League is actively engaged with Government, with the assistance of the Football Association, to secure a critical financial support package. It is hoped this can be announced soon.
"It is imperative the revenue shortfall caused by the pause to the safe return of spectators is responsibly addressed so each club can operate sustainably over the course of the forthcoming season."
