PICKERING Town have maintained their recruitment drive for the new season with the signings of centre backs Ben Clappison and Jake Watson.

Clappison began his career at home town Hull City and had loan spells at Histon and FC Halifax Town before penning a deal with York City.

The 25-year-old has since spent time at Boston United, Alfreton Town, North Ferriby United, Bridlington Town and most recently Cleethorpes Town.

Pickering manager Steve Roberts said: “Ben has agreed to join us for the coming season and I am absolutely delighted he has.

“He is someone I have had keen interest in since becoming the manager. Having met him and had him at training with us for the last couple of weeks, it only confirmed to me how good he will be for Pickering Town.

“Ben is a great lad to work with and he will make us so much stronger. Having played previously for Hull City, York City and most recently Cleethorpes he will come in be a key member of what I am trying to create at the football club.”

Former Pikes loanee Watson signs for Pickering having been released by York.

Roberts said of 19-year-old: “He comes from a very good footballing background having been with Middlesbrough and Hull City academies.

“He is someone that has so much ability and potential. A left footed centre half , he will add a different option to the team for the coming season.”

Elsewhere, Pickering begin their pre-season friendlies with a visit to Knaresborough Town on Saturday (2pm kick-off). The game will be played behind closed doors.
