MALTON and Norton Golf Club (GC) player David Hague earned a top five finish at this week's 2020protour event.

Taking place at the Howley Hall GC in Leeds, in the fourth 2020protour since golf returned amid the coronavirus pandemic, Hague posted a score of even (71).

In the tough, windy conditions, only seven players scored even or under-par.

Hague finished tied fifth in the event, alongside two other players - Jacob Davies and Nicholas Poppleton.

Three players were on one-under-par - John Parry, Richard Law and Ben Hutchinson - though they could not catch run-away leader Nick McCarthy from Moortown GC.

McCarthy picked up a prize fund of £1,575 while Hague won £378 for his tied fifth position.

There were also four golfers from York's Fulford GC in action at the event. Charlie Thornton was the pick of the bunch (+9) with James Cass (+10), George Robson (+10) and Sam Norman (+17) further down the leaderboard.

Earlier last month, Hague finished tied 11th at the Oulton Hall GC event, concluding on -1 (69), four shots adrift of European Tour player Marcus Armitage who was the competition’s sole leader on -5 (65).
