MALTON and Norton RUFC have arranged a pre-season friendly away to Bridlington for Friday, August 28 (7pm kick-off).

However, Malton and Norton have admitted, while writing on their club website, that “this is looking a long way off at the moment” given the current lockdown measures in place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bridlington finished 11th in the Yorkshire One division - a tier below Malton and Norton in North East One - last season after the RFU’s points-per-game ruling, two spots above the relegation places.

In a series of updates posted on the club’s website, the club also informed supporters that their Annual General Meeting will go ahead on Wednesday, June 3, taking place on the online platform Zoom.

The full details for login information to the meeting will be given soon.

Malton and Norton are also pursuing n opportunity to run a monthly draw, half of the funds raised of which would go to the club it support the maintenance of their playing grounds.

Writing on their website, Malton and Norton said: “We are in the early stages of looking into running a monthly draw ran through the website and once we can meet again both face to face ticket sales.

“If we can run this, it would be a 50/50 prize draw with a split pot, half going to the winning ticket holder and the other half back into the club to support the upkeep of our playing surfaces.

“The constant use of our pitches and wet weather this past season made pitch two unplayable at times and Doug Lund the Head of Grounds has arranged drainage work to be carried out on pitch two only in preparation for the next rugby season whenever that may be.”

In another update, they added: “The club is hopefully launching an e-newsletter soon.

“If you think you can contribute please contact Nick Salisbury or email maltonandnortonrufc@outlook.com.”

Also, on Saturday the club staged a stay-at-home pub quiz, which was organised by wing Ali Fothergill and quiz master Nick Whitaveen.
