THE York City Knights Squad Builder have revealed on social media that they received an anonymous donation of £10,000.

No name was given to the five-figure sum received by the group, who have funded several of the Knights' recent signings.

“In these unprecedented times that we are going through at the moment, there are still people out there who are still prepared to go that extra mile for the York City Knights,” the YCK Squad Builder wrote on social media.

“Squad Builder has received a cheque from someone for £10,000. There was no printed name on the cheque and unfortunately the signature wasn’t decipherable.

“We would just like to say an absolutely massive thank you to this person, you know who you are."

Speaking to The Press, they added: “We are thankful for any donation big or small as 100 per cent of the donations go towards supporting the York City Knights squad.

“2019 saw us raise just over £3,000 from sales of Pot of Gold tickets, raffles and rugby cards on away day bus travel.

“All this is carried out by volunteers wanting to help their local semi-professional rugby league club succeed in their potential.

York back rower Danny Washbrook hailed the £10,000 donation, saying: “Stuff like this that keeps our great game going. What a gesture.

“Thanks from everyone at York City Knights, whoever you.”

Knights half-back Connor Robinson said: “Absolutely class, whoever you are.”
