YORKSHIRE’S hopes of knock-out cricket in the Royal London one-day Cup are hanging by a thread after a four-wicket defeat to group leaders Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The Vikings were bowled out for 213 inside 43 overs having lost their last nine wickets for 101 on a ground which had produced three 400 plus totals in two previous North Group games this season.

In front of a 14,478 sell out crowd for Family Fun Day, the hosts chased their target inside 35 overs to secure a fifth-straight win and all but secure a place in the all important top three.

Mat Pillans had a hand in four Notts wickets, taking a superb one-handed catch and returning 3-57 from eight overs. Captain Steven Mullaney top-scored with 54 not out.

Yorkshire have now lost two, won one and tied two and are likely to have to win their remaining three games, starting at Northamptonshire on Wednesday (1pm), to have any chance of progression.

Adam Lyth top-scored with 63 off 54 balls, including two sixes, after Steve Patterson elected to bat.

He and second-wicket partner Harry Brook shared 107 inside 15 overs for the second wicket, recovering from 5-1 in the second over and the early loss of Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

Some extra bounce aided the seamers on a used pitch still good for batting.

Unfortunately, a number of Yorkshire batsmen fell to miscues and loose shots as they slipped from 112-1 in the 16th over.

Lyth pulled and swept two sixes and Brook shimmied down the pitch a couple of times and hit seamers Jake Ball and Australian James Pattinson over the top for boundaries.

The second six, swept behind square off Mullaney’s medium pacers, signalled Lyth’s second successive 50 after 78 in Friday’s home tie against Derbyshire.

But they were two of three wickets to fall for 10 runs in a hugely damaging three-and-a-half over period.

Brook was bowled for 39 trying to pull the off-spin of Matthew Carter, who had earlier removed Kohler-Cadmore, and Lyth was caught behind trying to cut Samit Patel’s left-arm spin.

When Jack Leaning chipped Pattinson to mid-on in the 20th over, Yorkshire had slipped from 112-1 to 122-4.

Gary Ballance and Jonny Tattersall, who made 25 and 19, were both caught in the deep pulling at Ball - he finished with three wickets.

Matthew Waite tried to fashion a recovery from 156-5 in the 28th over with 32, but he was bowled by Pattinson - 205-9 in the 40th.

Pattinson, Carter and Luke Fletcher all struck twice.

Pillans gave Yorkshire brief hope after a healthy Notts start to their chase.

The former Surrey quick took a brilliant catch at mid-on diving to his right to help Patterson remove Chris Nash (39) as Notts fell to 75-1 after 11 overs.

Pillans then had Ben Duckett caught at cover off a leading edge and Jake Libby caught behind with successive deliveries in the 14th before trapping Joe Clarke lbw for 40 in the 18th as Notts fell to 121-4.

However, Mullaney and Patel (36) ensured their was no further alarm by adding 63 before the latter was caught behind off Waite with 30 needed. Waite also had Tom Moores caught in the deep with only three to win.

Yorkshire made two changes from the team which tied with Derbyshire; Waite and Pillans in for David Willey, unavailable because of England duty, and Tim Bresnan.
