BAGBY & Balk returned to the summit of the newitts.com Beckett League first division on Saturday after they completed a league double against Ryedale Sports Club reserves – both games finishing 6-0.

Ryedale started well and could have scored three times in the opening five minutes as Bagby struggled to adjust to the sticky conditions.

But Bagby took the lead midway through the half when right-winger James Clark scored with a cross-cum-shot which went in off a post.

Danny Addison double the lead and in the second half Bagby got well on top, with man-of-the-match Martin Kendall scoring twice and Addison and Clark also completing doubles.

Slingsby won 6-3 at Rosedale in a game that swung both ways.

Slingsby strolled into a three-goal but Rosedale stormed back to level matters thanks to a brace by man-of-the-match Aaron Wells and a Tim Hodgson special.

Slingsby got going again and scored three further goals, their marksmen being man-of-the-match Scott Simpson (2), Sean Keefe (2), Danny Nunwich and Brent Wilson.

Duncombe Park are back on top of division two after an 8-2 defeat of Union Rovers reserves.

Jack Chadwick hit a hat-trick and the other marksmen were Rall Aychmoson (2), David Elkington, Charlie Colley and Sean Wilson. Declan Copeland scored both Rovers replies, while midfielder Martin Benson was their top performer.

Brooklyn 3rds rose into second place after a 2-1 home win against Snainton reserves, who dropped to fourth.

Jack Macleod and, with a 30-yard screamer, James Sturdy got the victors’ goals.

Gillamoor moved up into sixth – their highest place of the season - after a 9-0 home win against Settington reserves in a game switched to Gillamoor owing to the wet Settrington pitch.

Ryan Rivis was the star of the show with seven goals – three in the first half and four in the second.

Andrew Claughton got the other two goals, while there were impressive displays by centre-half Tony Cass and midfielder Patrick Bernstein.

Heslerton reserves won 5-1 at a below-par Norton United.

The hosts started well but could not capitalise and Steve Walker opened the scoring at the other end after 20 minutes.

Eoin Linehan made it two with a 20-yarder before turning provider to set up Phil Horton. Early in the second half Walker scored a second before the impressive Danny Dawes replied for Norton to put life back into his side, but a second Linehan goal made it 5-1.

Brad Train and Nathan Cross were Norton’s top performers, Mark Dring being Heslerton’s man of the match.

Thornton-le-Dale reserves scraped a 2-1 win at Stillington Sports & Social Club thanks to goals either side of half-time by the impressive Luke Hobbs.

Stillington had opened the scoring early on through Oliver Everard and in the final minute team-mate Steve Johnson missed an open goal.

The men of the match were midfielder Adam Baldwin (Stillington) and Damien Newman (Thornton).
