RELEGATED Sheriff Hutton were eyeing only a fourth win of term in division two north of the Hunters York & District Senior League – only for rain to dash those hopes.
The hosts had reached 182-8 against fellow strugglers York III when the match was abandoned due to the weather.
The top score of 45 came from Richard Ainley while Chris Gartland’s 38 was a seasonal best. A Frank was unbeaten with 29 whilst Kallum Ahmed claimed 3-70.
York III look poised to be relegated with Sheriff Hutton this weekend unless they can claw back a 21-point deficit to third-bottom Hovingham.
Promoted Duncombe Park will be able to make Hovingham safe on Saturday by beating York III. Hovingham host mid-table Pocklington.
Duncombe had had Hovingham on the ropes at 76-5 last weekend when they were saved by the metaphorical bell – the game being called off due to rain.
