AN assortment of edible plants and herbs have been planted in Malton to celebrate the town’s foodie connections.
This year, to celebrate Malton as Yorkshire’s award-winning food town, the front border of No 88 Old Maltongate, otherwise known as the Estate Office, has been planted with edible plants and herbs.
All the plants have been grown and nurtured from seed in the Malton Estate’s greenhouse during the last two months of lockdown .
Theyand have now been planted out in the front border of No 88 Old Maltongate by Martin Bayes Neil Harrison and Chris Pearson, members of the Estate’s team.
The assortment of herbs includes borage, coriander, fennel, thyme, mint, marjoram and oregano.
These are interspersed with a selection of rainbow beetroot, rainbow chard and courgette plants. Sweetcorn and cauliflowers will also be introduced when they are big enough to plant out.
Helen Barry, Estate manager, said: “Malton in Bloom is a celebration of colour which beautifully reflects the vibrancy of Malton; we hope that our little veg patch will help to support the town’s celebration of all things foodie as well as our sense of independence and wonderful variety.”
