Marks and Spencer (M&S) shoppers have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a brand new cookie flavour, and it is finally in stores.

Over the last year or so, the historic brand has gone viral multiple times for its new products, but none so much as its beloved bakery cookies.

Freshly baked in-store, M&S has three all-year-round flavours: classic milk chocolate, white chocolate and triple chocolate.

However, every so often it releases a new flavour like the seasonal mini eggs, white chocolate and gingerbread.

Now, much to the delight of many M&S cookie enthusiasts (myself included), the brand has released a new cookie flavour.

The chocolate and cornflake cookies are "rich, chewy cookies made with black treacle for a deep caramel flavour, with crunchy caramel pieces and crisp cornflakes, finished with milk chocolate", according to M&S.

Sounds like pure cookie sweetness heaven to me.

Like any M&S cookie enthusiast, I of course had to get my hands on the sweet treat as soon as I could.

What are the new M&S cookies?

As any true M&S fan will know, when it comes to new items, there is always one place you will head to find out what it is all about.

The M&S TikTok queen herself, Kathryn Turner, Director of Product Development for M&S Foods.

In one of her most recent TikToks, Kathryn chatted about the cookies with Harry (the M&S 'cookie king').

Sharing the inspiration behind the new flavour, Harry said: "It is inspired by the things that I love, so it's our amazing mini bites, chocolate cornflakes, then talking with the trends team, they were talking to me about Kid'Adulting, and I love Kid'Adulting.

"So this is my version: this is milk chocolate, dark chocolate, cornflakes, caramel, and our secret ingredients, an impossible amount of black treacle."

After hearing all that, how could I not be excited to try out the new M&S cookie?

Are M&S's chocolate and cornflake cookies as good as the rest?

First things first, I have to admit I am a big fan of the M&S cookies, and because the others are all so amazing, the standards are set pretty high.

I should also admit that I did not pick up the cookies myself; my friend took on the brave task of heading to the M&S bakery on launch day.

Unlike when you normally head to the bakery and are met with shelves of bagged cookies, my local store kept them off the shelves and was handing them out to shoppers.

We were lucky enough to get some straight off the tray and bagged up; you really could not get it any fresher.

But now was the time to finally try out the long-awaited M&S chocolate and cornflake cookies.

Off the bat, the cookies were sticky and crumbly, with a lovely smell of treacle and chocolate welcoming me as I opened the bag.

Jam-packed with sweetness, the chocolate and treacle worked well together, although maybe a tad too sweet.

However, the crunch of the cornflakes was a lovely surprise that added to the treat's texture and elevated its overall taste.

The best way I can describe the chocolate and cornflake cookies is to much of a good thing.

I personally think it would have been beyond amazing just being chocolate and cornflakes, and I cannot help but think the treacle hinders it.

Unlike the other M&S cookies, when it feels like you could eat the bag in one go, I did not feel that way about the new flavour, sadly.

I ended up having to get a glass of milk to help even out the sweetness of the treacle.

So, although the M&S chocolate and cornflake cookies might not be right for me, that does not mean I am no longer a die-hard M&S cookie fan and won't try any future flavours.

I just might stick to the classics until the white chocolate and gingerbread cookies finally return.

But with M&S TikTok queen Kathryn and cookie god Harry, I have a lot of faith in what is next for M&S cookies.
