THIS is the moment a newly married Cowes couple were left gob-smacked after Prime Minister Theresa May crashed their wedding.

Jason and Michelle Dight, of Newport Road, Cowes, had just exchanged their vows at the town's yacht haven and had gone on the Cowes Parade for some candid snaps when Britain's most powerful politician, flanked by security staff turned-up by boat at the Royal Yacht Squadron.

She posed for pictures with the amazed couple before continuing into the centre of town.

An astounded Michelle, 32, said: "We decided to pose for photos near the jetty. We saw this great big motor cruiser. It pulled up at the jetty and someone said 'It's Theresa May.'

"We were both like saying, 'no way'. As she was coming up the jetty, we asked the security staff if she would pose for pictures quickly."

Jason added: "As she came up the jetty, we called her over and she stopped for a photo and told us how beautiful Michelle looked. She said 'I'm not really dressed for the occasion'. She then got between us and posed for the photo and congratulated us and gave us good wishes for the future.

"We told her that we hoped she enjoyed her stay on the Isle of Wight."

Hairdresser Michelle joked: "It had to be the best photo-bomb ever."

Jason said: "We were just in the right place at the right time. Of course, it was what everybody was talking about when we got back to the haven. Some people did not believe us. They thought we were joking."

Number 10 Downing Street confirmed that Mrs May, who was with her husband Philip, was on a private visit to the Island.
