AUDIE Sellars (Letters, Sept 10) claims Jason Fitzgerald-Smith has been forgotten. Certainly not. How could we ever forget him?
Jason is hugely missed in the Malton community which he loved so much and for which he worked so hard. He was never afraid to take the brickbats, never sat on the fence or retreated to the sidelines.
He stuck doggedly to his convictions, played his part and did his best for the good of Malton, never seeking personal glory.
Jason will always be in the hearts of those of us fortunate enough to have known him and worked with him. We value and cherish his selfless love for the town.
We have lost a precious friend and colleague, but our beautiful town – as he always called it – is the richer because of what he did.
Our living memorial to Jason is to continue his work in making Malton a thriving place to live and work.
Emma Brooksbank, Malton
