WOULDN’T it be nice if Malton remained the same? Would our predecessors have asked the same question when the square was full of buses instead of motor cars?
The likely truth of the matter is that Malton will change as it is changing now. Who would have thought that our lovely shop, which sold stationary and artist’s materials, would now be a popular coffee shop? Who would have imagined that today’s Malton would have so many empty shops?
Yet some shops prosper – any that do, it is said, do so because they provide goods and services that cannot be obtained via the internet – indeed some business do well because they sell goods worldwide from Malton via the internet.
John Willmott, Malton
