THE Rotary Club of Malton and Norton has supported Louby’s Lifeline at its annual golf day.

Members held a charity golf day at Malton and Norton golf club, with this year’s proceeds – £3,324 – divided between the appeal and Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Louby’s Lifeline was set up by teenager Laura Robertson-Tierney and her mum, Emma.

The 18-year-old, who died at her home in Malton in February, founded the appeal to help to prevent others going through what she went through by raising awareness of brain cancer.

Only 10 months earlier, Laura, known as Louby, had collapsed and was diagnosed with two aggressive brain tumours.

Despite undergoing intensive and gruelling treatment, Laura was determined to raise awareness to help research and support others whose lives have been devastated by similar circumstances.

The golf day, dubbed the Malton Masters, was supported by local businesses with teams of four – men, ladies and mixed – competing for a first prize of £200.

The Rotary Club is keen to support loccal charities and treasurer John Howard said: “When members read about Louby’s Lifeline in the Gazette & Herald, they wanted to do something to help.”

“The day was a great success and I would particularly like to thank Alan Hague and Eddy Ruddock from Yorkshire Cancer Research for their tireless efforts in coercing all their golfing friends to join in the event.”
