Diamond Jubilee events taking place in the villages around Ryedale:

Ampleforth

The Jubilee group was started after the Jubilee kneelers were made for St Hilda’s Church and photos were sent to Archbishop Sentamu and the Queen. Lovely letters were received in response, with Her Majesty wishing Ampleforth a successful and enjoyable day on Monday, June 4.

There’s a day of fun events on Monday, June 4, with open gardens and scarecrow judging, from 9.30am to noon. At 11.30am is a children’s fancy dress competition in The White Horse garden. From noon onwards is a barbecue, with refreshments, stalls and competitions in the Main Street and live music outside The Village Shop.

There’s a children’s treasure hunt at 1pm from The White Horse car park. The Playing Fields is the venue for games including archery for all ages, ferret roulette, pitch’n’put and cricket, from 2pm to 4pm. At 2.30pm, the fun dog show starts, followed by tea in the village hall, from 4pm to 5.30pm, with results of competitions and prizegiving.

Appleton-le-Street

On Sunday, June 3, at 2pm, All Saints’, Appleton-le-Street, is hosting a Jubilee Family Service and picnic.

Ayton

A ‘Musical Extravaganza’ takes place on June 1, 7pm-11pm, which has been jointly organised to raise funds for the village hall and Derwent Valley BRIDGE, the steering group for future library services in the area. It will take place in a marquee beside the village hall and features live music.

Admission is £5.

Barton-le-Street

There’s a village party on the evening of Monday, June 4. There will also be a beacon lit to mark the Jubilee.

Brandsby

The WI will host a cake stall at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and members will serve teas during the afternoon.

Burythorpe

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations will be in full swing at Burythorpe throughout the weekend, starting with a scarecrow competition.

On Saturday afternoon there will be children’s sports on the Sports Field, followed by a street party. On Monday, June 4, there is a barn dance from 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 for adults, free to children under 16. Phone Judith Wilson on 01653-658522. The official beacon will be lit between 10pm and 10.30pm. On Tuesday, June 5, the weekend will be rounded off with a firework display at 10.30pm at the Burythorpe House Hotel.

Cayton

Celebrations begin with a race night at The Tow Bar, Cayton Bay, on Friday, June 1 at 8pm.

On Saturday, June 3, from noon onwards, the Blacksmith’s Arms will be holding a 1950s/early 1960s event with music.

The Methodist Chapel is holding a Flower Festival from June 2-4, 10am-4pm.

On Sunday, June 3, a Songs of Praise will be held at 3.30pm. On the same day the Star Inn will be holding children’s activities from noon and live music during the evening.

On Monday, June 4, a Fun Day will be held at Cayton Playing Field, Station Road, 11am-4pm.

On Tuesday, June 5, 2pm-4pm, T W Tindall’s will be celebrating their 200th anniversary with a garden party.

During the same evening, Cayton Art Club are holding an open evening, 7pm- 9pm, when their children’s competition will be judged.

At 7pm, a Thanksgiving Service will be held at St John the Baptist Church.

Dalby

There’s a Big Jubilee Forest Picnic on Sunday, June 3 in Dalby Forest.

Harome

There’s a Queen's Jubilee Street Party at the Star Inn on Tuesday, June 5, with a ‘Best Queen’ costume competition.

Hovingham with Scackleton

On Sunday, June 3, at 10.30am, All Saints’, Hovingham, is holding a United Jubilee Thanksgiving Service.

Hovingham with Scackleton are hosting a family fun day in the grounds of Hovingham Hall on Monday, June 4.

Scackleton is also lighting a beacon to mark the Jubilee.

Kirby Misperton, Great Habton, Normanby, Salton and Butterwick

The churches are staging their English Country Garden Festival from June 22-24, to celebrate the jubilee.

Kirkdale

There will be a special Jubilee service at St Gregory’s on Sunday, June 3 at 6pm. All are welcome.

Levisham

HIGHLIGHT of the Jubilee celebrations in Levisham will be the flying of the Union Jack from the village’s reinstated flagpole.

The events starts on Saturday with a celebration of flowers in the church in readiness for a Service of Thanksgiving at 5pm on Sunday.

Following the service, the church will host a concert by village residents. A drinks reception will be held during the interval.

On Monday, there will be an equine parade through the village when the leader will deliver a Union Jack flag to Levisham’s new flagpole.

In 1952 a flagpole was erected in Levisham to mark the Queen’s Coronation. The village held a ballot and decided that to reinstate the flagpole was an appropriate commemorative symbol for the Jubilee. Generous donations and a grant provided by the LEADER programme enabled the village to have a traditional wooden flagpole made and installed.

This will form the centrepiece for the village celebrations. The Union Jack will be hoisted as the National Anthem is sung.

A village treasure hunt and cricket match are planned for the afternoon, followed by tea and Jubilee cake in the marquee.

In the evening, a banquet is planned for 75 villagers and their guests, followed by a dance in the village hall.

Marton

On Saturday, June 2, at 11am, Marton celebrates the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at the Mission Room with a cake stall, raffle, competition and tombola and coffee/tea. There will also be a village barbecue in the Mission Room car park at noon, a ‘create a crown’ competition, games and a tug-o-war. Tickets are £3, telephone 01751 431976.

Oswaldkirk

There are celebrations taking place in Oswaldkirk on Jubilee Day, including evening celebrations.

Rillington

Everyone is welcome at a special Jubilee event, which takes place at Woodlands Community Centre on Thursday, June 7, at 10.30am. There will be a tombola, cake stall, children’s games and special Jubilee refreshments.

There’s also a Jubilee hat competition for men, women and children for hats decorated in red, white and blue, with prizes for each category. Admission is £1 for adults and 50p children. The proceeds will be donated to Tracy Bramley, who is taking part in the 150-mile Coastto- Coast mountain bike ride in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Research.

Seamer

A party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will be held on the village green on Monday, June 4 from 1.30pm with a formal opening by Coun Helen Mallory at 2pm. Everyone attending is asked to take food to share.

During the afternoon there will be children’s races, a fancy hat competition, a cake competition and judging of cards designed by children of Seamer and Irton CP School, as well as a handwriting competition.

In the evening there will be events hosted by Seamer Sports Association at the sports ground on Pasture Lane. Further information can be obtained from Coun Hayley Pickles on 865462.

Seamer Parish Council is giving a commemorative mug to every child in the parish aged 11 and under, and parents are reminded that orders need to be placed in advance by emailing clerk@seamercrossgates.plus.com The mugs will be distributed at the Memorial Hall on Saturday, June 2, 10am noon.

Sherburn

The jubilee celebrations are on June 3 from 11am at the playing field in West Garth. The parish council is giving a commemorative china beaker to every child in Sherburn under 16.

Parents can collect them at this event. If you have a problem attending please contact the parish clerk on 01944 710617 to reserve one for your child. There will also be a few beakers for sale for £5 if anyone else wants to buy one.

Slingsby

On Sunday, June 3 at 10.30am, All Saints’, Slingsby, is hosting a United Jubilee Open Air Service.

There is also a hog roast and organised children’s games during the afternoon.

Snainton

There will be a Diamond Jubilee Songs of Praise at St Stephen’s Church on Sunday, June 3, at 4.30pm. Give the name of your favourite hymn to Bob Williams (859130), then come along for a Sunday evening singsong and see if your choice makes the top ten.

Swinton

SWINTON Village Action Group has planned a Jubilee celebration on Monday at the BSA Sports Centre, from 2pm. There will be a bouncy castle, face painting, children and adults’ games, cream teas, hoop la and a range of stalls.

Admission is free, but Jan Anderson, chairman of the group, said: “Any contributions towards the raffle, tombola or cake stall will be most welcome.”

Thornton-le-Dale

Thornton-le-Dale Playing Field Association is holding a Jubilee party on Monday to raise money for the group. The event, 11am-3pm, will include a raffle, bouncy castle, used toy stall, games and refreshments.

Welburn

A VILLAGE street party is being held in Welburn on Saturday afternoon, on the green by Main Street.

Drivers are asked not to park along the Main Street between the Crown and Cushion and Pattacakes and the other side of Church Lane.
