A SPECIAL lunch is being held at The Star Inn in Harome as part of a month-long fundraiser for a local charity.

Andrew Pern, owner and chef of The Star, has created a three-course menu for the event in aid of Ryedale Special Families.

The lunch, on Tuesday, November 15, is one of a series of foodie fundraisers throughout November as part of the Enormous Lunch 2011.

The fundraiser was the brainchild of Fiona McBeath, from Broughton, as a thank-you to the support the charity provides for sister Diana and her family. Since it was first held, two years ago, it has raised £11,000 for Ryedale Special Families.

“I’ve known Andrew and Jacquie from The Star Inn for a number of years and they very kindly agreed to help me by organising this event as another offshoot to the month-long fundraiser,” Fiona said.

“I would really like to thank them for their support – I know I co-ordinate the event but without everyone’s support and enthusiasm it would not be the success it is.”

The lunch will be hosted by BBC Radio food and drink presenter Nigel Barden.

Tickets, including an arrival drink, are £35 per person, of which £20 will be donated to the Enormous Lunch fundraiser.

Andrew said he and Jacquie felt it was very important to support local charities. “Ryedale Special Families is a cause very dear to people’s hearts in this area, for which many people work hard to raise funds,” he said.

“We hope that the Enormous Lunch at The Star will help Fiona continue to raise a lot of money and give the charity a real boost.”
