YOUNG people will have the chance to find out more about career opportunities across Ryedale at a special event in Pickering.

Building on the success of last year’s event, Opportunity Knocks is aimed at pupils in Years 9-13 to interact with businesses and help to raise their awareness about career opportunities available.

A booklet will be provided for all attendees, giving details of each company including information about what they do and how they work.

Students will spend time at each stand during their visit to ensure they actively participate and benefit as much as possible from the day.

Companies from a range of sectors are taking part including Perry Slingsby’s, Swinton Technology, Feversham Arms, Derwent Training, Pot Doodles, The Vion Group Goody’s Group, Ryedale Folk Museum, The Ryedale Group, North Yorkshire County Council, North Yorkshire Fire Service, IGEN, Jobcentre Plus and Micro Metalsmiths.

The one-day event is organised by a team led by Ryedale District Council, NYBEP Ltd and Derwent Training.

Coun Keith Knaggs said: “Every discussion with business people in Ryedale reverts to skills, apprenticeships and employment for young people.

“This is the council’s flagship event, helped by our valuable partners, in trying to provide opportunity for all, at a time when it’s most needed.”

Opportunity Knocks will be held at Pickering Memorial Hall tomorrow (Thursday) with an opportunity for parents to attend, 5pm-7pm.
