CHILDREN are singing their way to a cleaner Pickering.
Entitled The Rubbish Song, the dedicated litter-pickers have recorded a song, composed by music teacher Janet Sanderson.
Now, following a debut performance of the song by children at a recent Ryedale area meeting of the Council to Protect Rural England (CPRE), a CD of the tune is being sent to schools in the area.
It has already been performed by the children at St Joseph’s RC Primary School in Pickering, said town councillor JulieHepworth.
“It’s certainly having an impact in encouraging children to be more aware about dropping litter and the importance of keeping our streets clean,” said Coun Hepworth, a long-running campaigner and leader of the Pride in Pickering initiative.
Children from a choir inMalton, as well as those involved in the Thornton-le- Dale and Pickering litter-pick campaign, Stop The Drop, appear on the CD.
“It is an educational tool to go into our schools, andwe are really pleased with its success,“ she said.
Pickering Infants School is already planning to include the CD and the litter issue in its curriculum. Among those attending the launch of the CD wasWill Gates from the CPRE website, Litteraction
