A CHARITY for homeless young people in North Yorkshire says demand for its services has increased by almost 40 per cent in the past year.
Now Safe and Sound Homes (SASH) has launched a campaign appealing for more volunteers to help it provide vital emergency accommodation.
Through its Nightstop scheme, homeless young people are able to stay in the homes of trained volunteers.
A spokeswoman said last year it helped 130 homeless young people, compared with 96 in 2009, and provided 646 nights of emergency accommodation.
Tracey Ward, North Yorkshire teamleader, said she would love to hear from anyone interested in finding out more about hosting.
Volunteers can accommodate a young person for one or several nights at a time, depending on their preference and availability, and are paid expenses to cover the cost. Anyone interested can contact SASH on 01904 652043 or email info@safeandsoundhomes.org.uk.
