DOG WALKERS are invited to join a special event to help raise funds for Ryedale Special Families.

Bark in the Park, a family dog walk and fun show, is being held at Duncombe Park, Helmsley, on Sunday, September 4 in aid of the local charity.

Organisers hope more than 100 families will turn out with their dogs to enjoy the venue and at the same time help to raise vital funds.

The event, which is supported by pet supplies retailer Pets At Home, starts at 10.30am and offers a choice of two walks – the four kilometre Woodland Walk or the five kilometre Riverside Walk. The more adventurous can combine them both.

On completion of the walk each family will receive a certificate and goodie bag and refreshments will be available.

The day continues with a fun dog show which is being organised by Ryedale pet-sitter and dog trainer Paws For Louise, and families are invited to enter up to six fun categories, including the waggiest tail, the scruffiest dog and the least obedient one.

Organiser Rob Davies said: “We wanted to create an event which will appeal to all the family and hopefully become an annual one.

“It’s a superb venue and perfect for dog walking. If you haven’t got a real dog you’re still more than welcome to come and join in – just bring your favourite toy one.”

Anyone wishing to take park should pre-register and obtain a sponsor form by phoning funding co-ordinator Rob Davies on 01653 690503 or 0791 923 5962.

Entry fee for the walk is £10 per family and it is hoped that each family will raise a minimum £10 in sponsorship.

The fun dog show can be entered on the day and will cost £1 per category, or £5 if you enter all six.

Entry to Duncombe Park and parking is free.
