HUNDREDS of families and outdoor enthusiasts attended the 63rd annual Borrowby Show.

After being blighted by rain in recent years, yesterday’s event, at the Hillside Rural Activities Park, in Knayton, near Thirsk, was dry, without being bathed in the warm sunshine organisers were hoping for.

As well as the usual agricultural and horticultural classes, which continue to thrive and attract high entry numbers and enthusiastic participants, show-goers were treated to a dog agility display and a fancy-dress competition.

Among the animals on show were Jersey cattle, rehabilitated racehorses and exotic alpacas, although these were for display purposes only and were not judged.

There was also a keenly contested tug-of-war, with a keg of beer at stake for the winners, and a parade by the Hurworth And Bilsdale Hounds.

This year’s joint show presidents, Don and Jillian Lowther, of Kirby Sigston, said they were pleased with how the show had gone.

Mrs Lowther said: “I have shown here since I was little, when I used to bring my rabbit, so we know all about it.”

The day’s events went on late into the evening, with a dance that included live music from local band Big Sigh And The Yawns.
