A SHOPKEEPER has been jailed for 20 years after being found guilty of bludgeoning his wife to death as she slept.
Robin Garbutt, 45, formerly of York and Huby, was convicted by a jury at Teesside Crown Court this afternoon following a four week trial.
The court heard he had attacked his wife Diana, 40, who grew up in Selby and Eggborough, as she slept above their village post office and shop in Melsonby, North Yorkshire.
Garbutt had claimed his wife had been attacked by armed robbers who fled with money from the safe.
