THERE will be a consultation meeting at Malton and Norton Rugby Club tomorrow to discuss plans for library closures across North Yorkshire over the coming year.
Howard Griffiths, a local campaigner against the proposed library closures, said: “It is important people are aware of the situation and attend the meeting because it affects all of North Yorkshire.”
The council plans to cut the number of permanent libraries in the county from 42 to 18 and reduce mobile library facilities from ten to two due to a 28 per cent budget cut over four years as part of the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review.
North Yorkshire County Council has scheduled the meeting for 10.30am.
The meeting is part of ongoing public consultation which ends in February on the proposal to close 13 libraries this year and next and a further 11 over the following three years.
