A SKATEBOARDING enthusiast is organising a special event in memory of one of his friends.
Ryan Swain, a youth worker from Norton, is hosting the second annual Halloween Skate Jam as a tribute to former Malton School pupil Tom Harrington who died in a car accident two years ago, aged 18.
Held at Norton Skate Park, the day will include competitions, demonstrations and workshops with a trophy named after Tom presented to the winner of a BMX competition.
Ryan said: “A lot of people knew Tom and remember him so it will be a fitting tribute to have a trophy to present in his name.”
The event is open to all ages and abilities. There will also be live music and break-dancing performances from Dance Expression.
He said: “Last year’s jam was fantastic with hundreds attending and I want it to be a family event with as many as possible coming along to watch and support.”
It takes place on Saturday, October 30, 10am-4pm, and is supported by a number of sponsors and backed by Ryedale District Council and North Yorkshire Police.
