PLANS are well under way for the Christmas illuminations in Malton and Norton, which the organisers say they hope will be the best ever.

Kevin Chilton of the Malton and Norton Christmas Lights Committee said: “With the end of summer fast approaching, we have made a start with the plans for this year’s display and what we hope will be a display that is second to none.

“Last year’s display is being brought out of storage, checked and repaired as needed.

“New displays are being considered and all wall fixings are being tested. All this takes time, effort and money.”

He added: “While all members of the committee give of their time and expertise freely, certain costs are unavoidable.

“The majority of the lights will be erected and dismantled by professionals. Even so the committee would still be grateful for any members of the public to come forward and offer whatever help they can.

“Help, either as a committee member or in assisting with the preparation of the displays, or assisting in preparing for the switch on will be welcomed.”

Alternatively, said Mr Chilton, donations would be welcome from anyone in the community.

Plans for both switch-ons are well under way, with Norton’s being held in the car park of the Derwent Arms on Friday, November 26 at 6pm and Malton’s being held in the Market Place by St Michael’s Church on Sunday, November 28, at 4pm which will coincide with the conclusion of the Victorian Dickens Weekend.

Anyone able to help the committee is asked to phone Mr Chilton on 07960 473733. Monetary donations, which will be acknowledged, can be delivered to the lights committee, c/o Linton Pet Shop in Malton Market Place, with cheques payable to Malton and Norton Christmas Lights.
