ROSEDALE Show attracted its biggest ever crowd after heavy overnight rain turned to a day of glorious sunshine.

Chairman Sam Dring said: “It was a fantastic success with record entries in many classes and wonderful support from the public and business community.

“We could not have wished for a better day, especially after the rain on Friday night had caused some concern. But the fields quickly absorbed the rain and we had no problems.”

All classes in the livestock sections had the best entries for years, and there were records in the horticultural, cookery and fur and feather sections.

President David Brown said: “Organising village shows such as Rosedale has become more difficult with the increasing volume of red tape. It is wonderful credit to the show committee that shows such as Rosedale’s not only continue, but go from strength to strength.

“This year’s has been an outstanding success. Many people come from all parts of the country and book their holidays to coincide with Rosedale Show so it is good for the local tourism economy as well as giving the public a chance to see the traditional farming community in action and showing off their splendid stock.”

Ted Cumbor, who has been showing and judging heavy horses for more than 60 years, said the entries at Rosedale had been the best of any show in Yorkshire this year.
