SECRETS will be revealed at a Scarborough garden this week as a major clear-up of brambles, weeds and debris begins.
A Groundwork team working alongside Scarborough Borough Council’s parks and countryside services staff is getting stuck into The Secret Garden in Scarborough’s Manor Road Cemetery in the hope of revealing the features that lie beneath.
The team is on a six-month placement under the Government’s Future Jobs Fund scheme, organised by Groundwork North Yorkshire, and is in a race against time to complete the project before the placements finish in a few weeks’ time. Once the cemetery’s Secret Garden has been cleared, the Friends of Dean Road and Manor Road Cemetery are hoping to find funds to reinstate the planting and some of the features to finish the project off.
Roger Burnett, Scarborough council’s parks and countryside manage, said: “Scarborough has such a wealth of history within the parks and open spaces and it’s really great to see this partnership approach being taken to restore our heritage.”
