ARTWORK by pupils at Terrington Hall School won high praise from artist Shelley Hughes when she judged the school’s annual art exhibition.

Miss Hughes, who holds an MA in fine art from the Institute for Contemporary Arts at Lancaster University, is outreach projects co-ordinator in Sheffield. She spent a morning at Terrington studying the works on display, and made her selection for the winning fine art and batik entries.

All children from Year 3 to Year 8 submitted exhibits which included watercolours, pencil drawings, pastels, charcoals and batiks in an exhibition organised by Terrington’s head of art and girls’ games Natalie Glen, and head of maths and art teacher Phil Magson.

On presenting the awards, Miss Hughes said: ‘In my experience of working in many schools across the region, I have to say there is an impressively high standard of work here.

“The vibrancy, individuality of style and close attention to detail are remarkable.”

Meanwhile, headteacher Jon Glen singled out Year 8 fine art winner Charlie Hill as a talent to watch.

He said: “Charlie’s cricketing character cartoons are an absolute delight. They are apparently effortlessly executed and perfectly capture the moment. I’m already handling inquiries as to whether they are for sale.”
