THE delayed General Election vote in Thirsk and Malton is being touted nationally as the first chance the public has to react to the Conservative-Lib-Dem coalition.

Voters finally get the chance to go to the polls on May 27, and anyone who is still undecided can see all the candidates in action tonight (Wednesday) at a hustings event organised by Ryedale Churches Together, being held at St Michael’s Church, Malton, at 7.30pm. A similar event was due to be held at St Oswald’s Church, Sowerby, last night.

Senior political personalities from the Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties are expected to be canvassing in Ryedale during the coming week, starting with Baroness Ros Scott, president of the Liberal Democrats, tomorrow (Thursday).

At least one Conservative Cabinet member is also expected to be in the constituency during the last week of the campaign.
