A RENOWNED Army Major and North Yorkshire landowner has died, aged 91. Major GRH Cholmley, of the Wintringham Estate near Malton, passed away on November 30.
His son, Hugh Cholmley, said: “He was a fine father, a fine sportsman, and above all a brilliant landlord and I only hope I can carry on what my father did. He was very much respected in North Yorkshire, in the farming community, the shooting community and the hunting community.”
Major Cholmley, husband of the late Pamela, is also survived by a daughter, Catherine Batton-Phelps.
His funeral will take place at 1pm on Thursday, at St Peter’s Church, in Wintringham.
