FOUR vital witnesses have come forward to help police investigating the fire that killed young jockeys Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson in Norton earlier this month.

Two men captured on CCTV footage and two others in the area near the time of the blaze contacted detectives after an appeal through The Press and other local media last week.

Detective Superintendent Alan Carey, who is leading the investigation into the suspected arson attack, thanked the media for their support.

He went on to appeal for any remaining witnesses to come forward.

He also released new CCTV footage, as officers continue their investigation into the fire, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 5.

Det Supt Carey said: “I now hope, with the media’s assistance once again, to locate the people and the occupants of the black saloon car seen in the new pieces of CCTV footage recorded 25 minutes and 14 minutes prior to the tragic event that morning.

“As well as these particular individuals, it is vital that we speak to everybody who was in the vicinity of the fire scene between 1.45am and 2.15am on Saturday, September 5. “Even the smallest piece of information or a vague recollection of odd or suspicious behaviour could make a big difference.

“At the very least we need to eliminate possible witnesses as part of this thorough and detailed investigation.”

One of the men in the footage released last Friday was seen walking along Church Street towards the fire scene at Buckrose Court at 2.05am.

He came forward earlier this week. A man in the same piece of footage and two other men who were seen walking along Church Street at the filling station about ten minutes later have also now contacted the investigation team.

In the first piece of new CCTV, a man is seen walking along Church Street, Norton, towards Commercial Street and Buckrose Court at 1.50am.

The second clip shows a woman walking towards Commercial Street at 2.01am.

Anyone who can help the investigation should phone North Yorkshire Police on 0845 6060247, quoting the reference number 12090154545.

Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously by phoning on 0800 555 111.

A 37-year-old local man who was arrested in connection with the investigation remains on police bail while the investigation continues.
