A MAJOR York hotel could be set for a new look.

Plans lodged with City of York Council would see signs featuring new Hilton branding installed at the Tower Street hotel.

An application from its operator Adda Hotels stated it was part of an ongoing rebrand and efforts to update the visual identity of the business.

Plans are set to see the sign above the hotel's Tower Street front door and ones at the entrance to its parking area in the undercroft of the building replaced, among others.

The illuminated and non-illuminated signs would feature the Hilton name in white lettering on a metallic grey background.

The application stated the signs were an upgrade of the ones currently in and around the building.

It added the new signs were appropriate in their location near historic buildings including Clifford's Tower and they would enhance the public realm.

Plans stated: "The proposal supports the ongoing rebranding and updated visual identity of the business, aimed at providing clear, high-quality identification while respecting the character and appearance of the surrounding area.

"The replacement signs are modest, work with the building and would not be an unduly prominent addition to the street scene.

"Where illuminated, the level of illumination will be appropriate to the location and will not cause glare or distraction."
