Plans lodged with City of York Council would see a new car wash built at the Inner Space Station, in Hull Road.
A garage next to the site's existing car wash would be torn down to make way for the new facility which would border the house next door.
The application stated an extra car wash would help cut queues and bring commercial benefits which would help sustain the business.

The new car wash would replicate the existing one at the service station which is known for the Daleks, Cybermen and stormtroopers on the roof and at the entrance to its shop.
Plans lodged with the council would also see two plant rooms associated with the operation of the current wash replaced when they are brought together and housed in one unit.
A 2.4 m-high acoustic fence is also set to be built along the western boundary of the site.
Entry and exit shutters are also planned on both the current and new car wash to further reduce noise.
The application stated: "The proposals will deliver a benefit to existing residents of adjacent properties on account of reduced noise levels from the car wash operations at the site.

"Additional benefits associated with the scheme also include reduced queuing associated with the current car wash operation at the site.
"Due to the popularity of the car wash, queuing can sometimes overflow into the wider forecourt area and also a resulting knock-on effect closer to the Hull Road access point.
"The delivery of a second car wash could reduce queuing by 50 per cent on account of double the amount of cars being able to use the car wash at any one time."
