TRADERS from across York and beyond are starting their preparations as the York Christmas Market gets ready to open its doors in 10 days time.
Starting next Thursday (November 12), the five-and-a-half week event – which attracts visitors from across the world - will run until the Monday before Christmas (December 21).
The market will see around 70 vendors in alpine style chalets in Parliament Street, with organisers Make it York adding that more than 80 per cent of the traders will be from Yorkshire.

The event will also see a major change this year as it prepares to implement a rest day on Tuesdays where the market will close and usual footstreet hours of 10.30am to 5pm will apply - as well as changes to parking.
As reported by The Press in February, footfall at the event was down by almost a quarter year-on-year but visitor satisfaction was up – according to figures from the city’s tourism and events body showed.

The total footfall in Parliament Street was 961,730 during the market, though issues with cameras collecting data meant some of it had to be estimated according to Make It York.
Visitor satisfaction rose to 92 per cent, according to a survey which showed people wanted more variety in stalls, the event to be spread out and better crowd management.

A Make It York report stated it came as part of an exceptional year as the city’s brand continues to grow stronger nationally and internationally.
