A former North Yorkshire soldier will honour generations of his military family and fallen colleagues when he marches past the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.

Robert Taylor, 55, from Selby, will take part in the Remembrance parade in London as part of the Help for Heroes contingent.

He said: "I feel really proud to be part of the Help for Heroes contingent at the Cenotaph.

"As chair of our Armed Forces Network, I’m marching for my Skipton colleagues who have served and spouses of former or currently serving personnel, and reaffirming our commitment to the Armed Forces Community."

Mr Taylor, who joined the army at 16, comes from a long line of military service.

His father, Athlyn Taylor, served in the Royal Signals for 20 years and was awarded the British Empire Medal for his advocacy work supporting Second World War veterans.

He will join 50 others from Help for Heroes and 10,000 veterans at the parade.

Rob Marston, service director for Help for Heroes, said: "We remain at the side of veterans and their families who are struggling with painful injuries, mental trauma, isolation, and more – providing life-changing support for as long as it takes."

Help for Heroes is encouraging people to sign the People's Promise.
