AN URGENT update has been urged regarding roadworks in a North Yorkshire town.
Northern Gas Networks are currently replacing pipe works in Norton between the level crossing and Riverside way.
The work is expected to take around 17 weeks.
From tomorrow morning (Wednesday) access to Welham Road in Norton from the railway crossing will only be for vehicles leaving Norton towards the Stamford Bridge road and St Nicholas Street as the road will be closed one way from Springfield Garth.
Cllr Di Keal, Mayor of Norton, said: "You will not be able to come into Norton or Malton from the Welham Road direction due to this new one way restriction, so anyone living on Lakeside, Park Road, The Avenue, Beechwood Road and Hunters Way will need to allow around 20 minutes longer for the morning commute or trip into town.
"Northern Gas Networks will be setting up diversion signs taking traffic out of Norton and through Langton village then back into town via Langton Road.
Unfortunately this diversion could be in place for up to two weeks - although they will try to complete the work quicker if possible - while Northern Gas Networks continue to carry out essential work on the gas network - please be patient and drive carefully."
