TWO fires have been deliberately started in the same road in a North Yorkshire town.

The county's fire and rescue service said a tactical rescue vehicle crew was called to Barrowcliff Road in Scarborough twice in the space of 90 minutes yesterday evening (Thursday, September 10).

Police have been called in to investigate both fires.

A service spokesperson said: "At 6.07pm the crew responded to reports of a fire that had been deliberately set and left abandoned in a wooded area.

"Crews extinguished the fire using a knapsack sprayer and small tools.

"At 7.25pm the crew was mobilised to reports of a deliberate fire being set.

"On their arrival, the fire was still smouldering, crew power was used to extinguish it."
